ABCrallyCome take action and call on Duke Energy to retire the Asheville power plant and lead our state in renewable energy!

The event will be from 2-4 p.m. on Aug. 24 at Pack Square and will feature music, kids activities and great speakers.

Our electric energy comes from the Asheville coal-fired power plant, which is the largest single source of CO2 pollution in Western North Carolina – the equivalent of more than 500,000 extra cars on the road.  It’s polluting our air, our water and our communities and the coal we burn comes from mountaintop removal — which is destroying mountains, sickening communities, and harming the air and water of sister Appalachian communities in Kentucky.

Event speakers include Asheville Mayor Terry M. Bellamy, national Beyond Coal Campaign Director Mary Anne Hitt and actor and Sierra Club environmental activist Ian Somerhalder (“Lost” and “The Vampire Diaries).
