Bluff Mountain Bio-Blitz

Bluff Mountain is one of the little-known jewels of Pisgah National Forest. Bluff rises more than 3,500’ above the French Broad River to a height of over 4,600’. The range of elevations, aspects, and landforms and the presence of rare habitat types such as seeps, rock outcrops, and forests over basic soils should provide habitat for an abundance of rare and common species, yet few biological inventories of Bluff Mountain have occurred. During the Bluff Bio-Blitz, participants will endeavor to inventory the biological diversity of Bluff Mountain. All findings will be submitted to the US Forest Service as part of a citizens’ proposal for protective management of Bluff.

*All participants are expected to bring at least 2 quarts of water, rain gear, and sturdy footwear on all hikes, and to pack their own lunch on Saturday, June 4th. MountainTrue offers to provide lunch on June 5th if participants check that option above.*
The hikes are free and there are two hikes to choose from for each day. Pack your own lunch or have us provide one for you at a cost of $10.
We will congregate both mornings in the public parking lot behind the Hot Spring Community Center. On Saturday at 6 p.m. there will be an informal social at the Sunnybank Inn.

Meal Options:
June 5th – Packed Lunch (HAM & TURKEY) Provided by MountainTrue – $10 + fees
Ham and turkey served on a whole wheat wrap with Swiss and American cheese, lettuce and tomato (mayo and mustard provided on the side). Chips, apple and cookie.
June 5th – Packed Lunch (VEGAN) Provided by MountainTrue – $10 + fees
Hummus, lettuce, tomato, sprouts, beets served on a whole wheat wrap. Chips, apple and vegan cookie.
June 5th – Packed Lunch (VEGAN & GLUTEN FREE) Provided by MountainTrue – $10 + fees
