Mary Kate coordinates educational and volunteer events with other MountainTrue staff and helps promote the MountainTrue mission through community engagement in WNC.

Mary Kate grew up in Blacksburg, Virginia, where she fostered a love of all things outdoors. She attended Christopher Newport University (CNU) in eastern Virginia, where she received her B.S. in Environmental Biology with minors in Business Administration and Leadership Studies. Throughout her time in college, she regularly volunteered with a local museum’s grounds department and worked heavily within Student Affairs.

She spent a summer term in Costa Rica, studying Tropical Marine Biology, and loves to travel internationally to explore new cultures all over the world! After serving her first AmeriCorps term with the Maine Conservation Corps in 2013, she’s excited to learn about and serve a whole new community. In her free time, you can find Mary Kate hiking up to catch a sunrise, researching her next snorkel/dive site, traveling up to Maine, or running the trails of WNC.

We value mountain communities that are vibrant, livable, and respectful of their connection to and dependence on the region’s natural environment.
We value the integrity of natural systems – air, land, water, and native plants and animals – and believe in protecting and restoring them for the benefit of all generations.
