Tuckasegee River Watch Our Water Team

The Tuckasegee Community Alliance is gearing up for an effort to identify, report, and hopefully eliminate sources of erosion. We are partnering with Roger Clapp of The Watershed Association of the Tuckasegee River (WATR) to form a Watch Our Water (WOW) team of volunteers to monitor streams during storms, sample for turbidity, document and report sources of erosion and sedimentation to the appropriate agencies.

Our WOW team will identify, report and document erosion sites and their sources. Once erosion sources are identified, we will reach out to landowners in order to make recommendations and work together on possible solutions. Sites of importance or with solvable erosion problems will be targeted first.

Interested in joining our efforts? Please contact Ken Brown.

APRIL 2014:

Dear Jackson Conservation Voters and Jackson County Citizens,
From the sign-in sheet for speakers at the Public Hearing for the JC Planning Board meeting earlier this month, a group of us who were at that meeting have put together a petition-as well as a comprehensive mailing list to send petitions to—to keep momentum going and to generate a unified campaign by concerned “JCCV Movement members.”

We urge you to join us in this initiative.

We need to get as many signatures on this petition as possible, as soon as possible. The petition delineates the issues that were brought up in the Public Hearing and proposes that more time, study and thought be put into the Planning Board’s proposed amended version of the county’s existing Land Use Regulations.

We are sending you, here in attachment, a ready-to-use copy of the petition with hopes that you will download and print out multiple copies and begin to collect signatures immediately, in case we might need all the petitions and signatures on short notice.

We certainly want hundreds, if not a thousand signatures by the time the Commissioners hold their Public Hearing on this issue—to let them know that there is a large number of residents in Jackson County who oppose the passage of this Planning Board Amendment.

When you have collected all the signatures you think you are capable of, please respond to the Jackson Conservation Voters at riverwind22@mykolab.com and/or contact Roy Osborn, who will be collecting all petitions and compiling a comprehensive statement to send to Jackson County Planning Director Gerald Green.

You can also send the copies of your petitions with signatures directly to:

Thank you for your enthusiasm and your help in this effort to keep our country clean, green, and sustainable.

Macon/Jackson Green Drinks

Green Drinks is a time for local folks to get together and socialize, have a drink, talk about environmental or social justice issues, and just have a great time with one another.

We hope you will join us for the next Franklin Green Drinks, happening the 3rd Tuesday of every month at the Rathskellar in Downtown Franklin.
