A Partnership with NCDEQ to Help Western North Carolina Recover from Hurricane Helene
After Hurricane Helene, our rivers were left choked with plastic, litter, and trash that threaten wildlife, water quality, and recreation. MountainTrue is partnering with the State of North Carolina to clean it up — creating good jobs, supporting local communities, and restoring our rivers. Whether you want to work, volunteer, or get help as a landowner, this is your place to start.
Ways To Get Involved
Volunteer
Sign up for a land or water cleanup.
We bring gear, give guidance, and make it fun. Opportunities are available for individuals or groups.
All positions are currently full. MountainTrue's cleanup crews work on the front lines of river restoration across our region. This is hands-on, steady work that makes a real difference — for our environment, our economy, and our future.
MountainTrue will deploy paid cleanup crews across the storm-impacted region. Crews will work to remove debris, restore habitat, and reconnect communities with clean, safe waterways.
Why It Matters
Our program works to clean up materials that are not being addressed by federal cleanup efforts. Clearing these smaller materials vital to our tourism and outdoor recreation economy.
