Liz McGuirl, River Clean-up Story Collector
Liz is honored to serve as the River Clean-up Story Collector for MountainTrue. She is a graduate of Randolph-Macon College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Originally from Virginia, Liz moved to Western North Carolina in the summer of 2015 and has spent the last decade hiking and exploring all over these Blue Ridge Mountains. A self-proclaimed waterfall enthusiast, she has hiked to (and photographed) over 300 waterfalls in the last three years, cultivating an intimate relationship with the land and water in WNC.
She attended her first river cleanup with MountainTrue in October 2024, one month after Hurricane Helene devastated the region. After that, she was hooked. She started volunteering regularly — and traveling all over WNC — to help clean up our local rivers in the aftermath of the storm.
Liz is grateful to be able to combine her love for the land and waters with her passion for storytelling and photography in a way that highlights the important work that MountainTrue and its debris removal crews are doing to recover waterways post-Helene.
