Julie Lehman
Creation Care Alliance Engagement Manager
As Engagement Manager for MountainTrue’s Creation Care Alliance, Julie supports communities of faith in their environmental sustainability efforts and connects them with other congregations to strengthen their collective impact. By building authentic relationships with people of diverse faiths, Julie empowers local communities for environmental advocacy, grows and supports the network of Covenant Partner Congregations across WNC and develops local leaders to drive community-led solutions to environmental challenges. By connecting environmental and justice work, her role serves as an essential bridge between faith, science, nonprofit, and secular organizations.
Julie holds a BA in Psychology from Davidson College and an MA in Theological Studies from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA. She has helped form creation care teams at multiple churches and served as director for Presbyterians for Earth Care at the national level. She was Church Relations Director at Warren Wilson College from 2005 – 2015 and then worked in development for Montreat Conference Center for ten years before joining MountainTrue (of which she’s a long time member and past board chair). Julie lives in Asheville and enjoys making pottery with a wheel and walking and playing with their three rescue dogs, Xena, Zoe and Nellie. When she is not at her husband’s church in Spruce Pine, she attends a UCC church in Asheville.
