Designing Communities That Work With Nature, Not Against It

Growth in the Southern Blue Ridge may bring economic vitality, but it doesn’t have to come at nature’s expense. Join MountainTrue in working for planning, housing, and transit solutions that respect the land and strengthen our communities.

Everyone Deserves Good Design

The Appalachian Design Center (ADC) connects communities with volunteer architects, engineers, graphic designers, landscape designers, and planners. We partner place-based expertise with technical expertise, supporting local strengths and addressing local challenges with design.

Is your community figuring out how to approach rebuilding after Hurricane Helene? Are you a professional who wants to contribute to our region’s recovery? We invite you to learn more and connect with us.

Our Housing Initiative

Yes to More Neighbors

Everyone deserves a safe, affordable place to live without having to leave the communities they love. Neighbors for More Neighbors WNC works to expand housing choices in walkable, connected neighborhoods while preserving the natural beauty of our region.

Better Ways to Get Around

The I-26 ConnectUs Project

The I-26 Connector has been debated for decades and MountainTrue has been there every step of the way. As the lead convener of the I-26 ConnectUs Project, we’ve united neighbors and local organizations to push for the least impactful and most logical plans.

Sidewalks Bikelines and Greenway

Sidewalks, Bike lanes, and Greenways

Investing in complete streets, safe bike networks, and greenways means fewer cars, cleaner air, and more connected communities. MountainTrue works alongside partners to make it possible for families to live close to jobs, schools, and errands without relying on a car for every trip.

Public Transit

We believe wise land use, transportation planning, and expanded transit services (operating in more areas, for longer hours, and at higher frequencies) will greatly benefit local residents and businesses. It will make our region a more equitable, affordable, and sustainable place to live for everyone.
