May 1-2, 2026, Creation Care Alliance hosted the alliance-wide gathering known as Symposium at Montreat Conference Center near Black Mountain, NC. The theme of this conference was “Building Resilience: Congregations in a Climate-Changed World,” and participants enjoyed two days exploring this topic both experientially and academically. Speakers included Author and Environmental Studies Professor, Mallory McDuff, writer, filmmaker, podcaster, Derrick Weston, and many other local environmental theologians and practitioners. Creation care team members got to share ideas with others doing similar work in faith communities from across Western NC. Next Symposium Date – TBD (stay tuned!)
With natural disasters increasing in frequency, faith communities are attending more to the natural world and to finding our true place within it. As a union of climate connected congregations, MountainTrue’s Creation Care Alliance is working to strengthen and expand its network of Covenant Partner Congregations, helping them become lifelines of resilience, compassion, and mutual aid in the face of future climate challenges.
