Defend Our Shared Public Lands: Protect Grand Staircase-Escalante

Grand Staircase-Escalante

Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) and Representative Maloy (R-UT-02) have launched a fast-track assault on Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. By introducing “resolutions of disapproval” under the Congressional Review Act (CRA), they are attempting to gut the Monument Management Plan that protects this iconic landscape.

Why this matters to Western North Carolina: While Grand Staircase-Escalante is located in Utah, it is a national treasure that belongs to every American — including us. At MountainTrue, we know that an attack on public lands anywhere is a threat to the forests and waters in our own backyard. If this resolution passes, it sets a dangerous precedent for turning our shared heritage over to private interests.

Your voice is critical. Senator Thom Tillis is a key voice in this fight, and he needs to hear from his constituents today. We must demand that our lawmakers choose conservation over destruction.
