In the wake of Hurricane Helene, MountainTrue is dedicated to addressing the urgent needs of our community.
Join MountainTrue and the Hemlock Restoration Initiative at DuPont State Recreational Forest (DSRF) for a two-part hemlock educational event on Wednesday, April 20th! From 9:00 AM-12:00 PM, enjoy a hike through the forest as we take a look at hemlocks near Grassy Creek Falls trail and venture into a hemlock grove, while learning about hemlock trees, the hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA), and treatment options from our hike leader and the Hemlock Restoration Initiative Coordinator, Margot Wallston. Then, from 1:00 PM-4:00 PM, Margot Wallston and Eric Folk, a DSRF Ranger, will present on hemlock treatment and the hemlock woolly adelgid. There will be an opportunity to take a look at female adelgids and egg masses under a microscope in the Aleen Steinberg Center. After the presentations, we will carpool to a site in the forest to see infested hemlock trees and, time permitting, an experimental research plot of hemlock trees. You have the option of attending the hike, the educational session, or both!
You must sign up before Monday, April 18th at NOON. Please sign up here.
