Amanda McManaway, AmeriCorps Forest Keeper Coordinator

Amanda_300A native of north Florida, Amanda graduated from Florida State University with her B.S. in Biological Sciences and a minor in Chemistry. A summer abroad in Ecuador sparked her interest in environmental conservation. Upon returning to FSU, she changed her focus from pre-med to plant sciences. After graduation, Amanda taught 6th and 8th grades in Chuuk, Micronesia for the 2014-2015 academic year through the non-profit, WorldTeach. During her time in Chuuk, she gained an understanding of the plight that the island nations face with climate change, waste management, and sustainable farming and building practices. Now in Asheville, Amanda is excited to serve the community and learn about the flora of the southern Appalachians.
