2025 Women’s Green River Takeover/Makeover: Cleanup Edition with MountainTrue near Saluda, NC 8/23

This year marks the 12th annual Women’s Green River Takeover — and instead of the usual group paddle, the event is teaming up with MountainTrue’s Green Riverkeeper for a special river cleanup day on Saturday, August 23.

Participants are invited to camp Friday and Saturday nights at the Green River Ranch (suggested donation: $20 to be given when you arrive to camp), and take part in a community raffle to help fund future Green Riverkeeper cleanup efforts. While this event centers the experiences of women in whitewater, it welcomes all genders who support the mission of getting more women on the river.

Volunteers can choose from roadside options or to paddle/walk down the river to remove trash along the riverbed and banks. The ability to paddle the river will be level dependent, but you can walk the riverbed in most places making it easier to remove buried debris. Canoes have been great to haul trash down the river and MountainTrue will have some duckies available to use for trash hauls as well. Please bring your own watercraft if you plan on doing the river portion.

Please make sure you come prepared for the day with your own boat/gear if getting in the river, closed toed shoes for all volunteers, water, snacks, sunscreen, medical needs, etc. We will provide trash bags, gloves and tools to pickup or remove trash.
