In the wake of Hurricane Helene, MountainTrue is dedicated to addressing the urgent needs of our community.
In partnership with AARP NC, Building Our City is excited to present this virtual tour of accessory dwelling units titled: Much Ado About ADUs. What is an Accessory Dwelling? Although many people have never heard the term, the greater Asheville area is speckled with examples of these creative ways to foster aging in place. Accessory Dwellings or Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU’s) may be associated with different names: garage apartment, granny pod, secondary dwelling, or in-law apartment. Whatever you call them, ADU’s can be a good housing option for a lot of us, including older adults. Learn more about the concept and explore examples in our community at this virtual tour. This event is sponsored by AARP North Carolina in collaboration with the R.L. Mace Institute for Universal Design, and Housing Options for Aging in Place (HOAP), an initiative of Age-friendly Buncombe County and the Asheville Design Center.
