Hendersonville Green Drinks: From Brownfield to Brewery, Building our East Coast Home in Asheville, NC

Have you ever wondered why New Belgium – one of the biggest names in craft beer – chose to open a secondary location in Asheville? On Thursday, June 14, Hendersonville Green Drinks welcomes Sarah Fraser, the Sustainability Specialist for New Belgium Brewing in Asheville. She will discuss how and why the craft brewer selected Asheville as their new home and the work that went into rehabilitating their 18 acre campus, including brownfield remediation, stream restoration and native landscaping.

Sarah Fraser is the sustainability specialist at 100% employee-owned New Belgium Brewing in Asheville, NC. Sarah is part of a sustainability team that supports the Company’s environmental stewardship programs and engages Asheville coworkers in making progress toward the company’s ambitious energy, water, emissions and waste reduction goals. When she isn’t busy helping New Belgium reach its sustainability goals, you can find Sarah in the great outdoors, doing anything from backpacking, trail running and biking, to birdwatching, beekeeping and learning about the native flora of the Southern Appalachians.

Hendersonville Green Drinks is presented by MountainTrue, Conserving Carolina and Black Bear Coffee Co. Come to Green Drinks to learn more about current environmental issues, have relevant discussions, and meet with like-minded people. This is a monthly event and everyone is welcome. You don’t have to drink at Green Drinks, just come and listen. Black Bear Coffee offers beer, wine, coffee drinks and sodas. A limited food menu will be available.
