In the wake of Hurricane Helene, MountainTrue is dedicated to addressing the urgent needs of our community.
Join MountainTrue Biologist, Josh Kelly for an invasive plant removal workday. This workday will include a scenic and strenuous 3-mile hike to Double Head Knob, an excellent example of a montane grassland growing over a sloping rock outcrop. The site is being threatened by several species of invasive plants, which participants will help control mechanically and with herbicide.
Richmond Hill Park is Asheville's largest forested park and hosts miles of trails. Despite its suburban location, Richmond Hill has a diversity of native plants that are being choked out by non-native invasives. Participants will receive training in plant identification and in invasive species control methods. To celebrate the end of Swim Guide season, we would like to celebrate our volunteers' efforts in our clean water work. This is also a chance to reconnect with our volunteers involved with our monthly VWIN chemical sampling program, live-staking work, and invasive plant removal. We are so excited to share stories of how their sampling has made a difference in the New and Watauga River watersheds with our dedicated volunteers.

MountainTrue, in partnership with the Mainspring Conservation Trust and the Pinnacle Park Foundation, is hosting a community volunteer workday to restore native habitat at Pinnacle Park in Sylva. While we had planned to tackle nonnative invasive plants, if cleanup is needed from the storm, we'll work on that first. No prior experience is necessary; we will provide tools and training. Please register in advance so that we will have enough tools, gloves, etc.
