River Cleanup with Wicked Weed in Asheville, NC 6-25-22

Come join the river cleanup hosts MountainTrue and Wicked Weed, and sponsor HiWire Brewing on June 25 from 1 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. as we clean up the French Broad River. T-shirts will be provided by Recover for all participants! After we finish the River Cleanup we will celebrate a successful day cleaning the river with a round of beer for everyone and also snacks! Prizes will be given for the weirdest trash. Registration for this event is required.

Riverkeeper Float Fest in Todd, NC 8/20/22

Come out for the long-awaited return of Riverkeeper Float Fest sponsored by Appalachian Mountain Brewery, and hosted by River & Earth Adventures. Proceeds benefit MountainTrue’s Watauga Riverkeeper and help protect clean water in the High Country.

This will be a family-friendly, experiential educational event and a fun day out on the water. but all participants are welcome all day at the River and Earth Adventures outpost for the festival. The riverside fest will have a barbecue with volleyball, cornhole and other yard games and live music. MountainTrue staff and Riverkeepers will lead environmental education activities including kick-net sampling for macroinvertebrates, snorkel tours and watershed modeling. There will also be Fly Fishing demos from Boone's Fly Shop and High Country Guide Service. Opportunities for a tubing the New River as well as a tie up tube city scene will be available.

7th Annual Sarah Sweep on the First Broad River near Lawndale, NC 9/24/22

Come join the 7th Annual Sarah Sweep River cleanup and celebration. All are welcome to join us on this lovely section of river that Sarah Spencer held dear to her heart. While paddling the shallow, shaded, cool waters that flow between rock cliffs and rhododendron, Sarah would always stop to pick up any litter along the way. Sarah, Beejay, Billy, and Davey died tragically in 2016 in a car accident. This event is in remembrance and honor of these friends and their love for our river. We hope you'll honor their memory with us on either the river cleanup or in celebration after the cleanup where we'll have barbecue provided by Doug Fortenberry Catering and live music.
