Are trees social beings? What does science tell us about how they interact? How does this change the way we interact with them? Join us as delve deep into these questions and discover the unexpected complexity of forest communities as we read the international bestseller, The Hidden Life Of Trees by forester & author Perter Wohlleben. In this 6-week book study, MountainTrue and the Creation Care Alliance will explore the forest communities of Wohlleben's book and bring in local experts to expand our knowledge of forests here in WNC.

Paddle-n-Plant Workday
The French Broad Riverkeeper and MountainTrue are combating sediment erosion in our local waterways. Sediment is a major polluter in our river basin, clogging fish and aquatic habitats, increasing water temperatures, and transporting toxic substances. We are helping to reduce the amount of sediment that flows into our rivers by planting live-stakes along eroding riverbanks. These stakes will grow into trees that will stabilize the sides of the rivers and creeks where we plant them, and will reduce the overall amount of sediment getting into the river. So, come hop in a boat and help us reduce erosion along our local rivers!

Ash Inventory Training
Are you concerned about the future of our forests? We need people who will help us collect data to improve our ability to effectively protect our trees. As part of our Save Pisgah's Ashes campaign, we are planning to treat ash trees in Pisgah to protect them from the Emerald Ash Borer. However, there are ash trees all over WNC, many that we have not yet documented, and therefore, cannot treat them. We are calling on the adventurous people of WNC to help us find the ash trees in our region. In this training, you will learn how to identify ash trees, assess them for signs of Emerald Ash Borer, collect data on the trees, and how to send us that data, so we can use it to inform our ash tree treatment. This training is free, but please bring your own lunch and water. If you have a gps, bring that too!
