Guardians of Our Troubled Waters – Film Screening and Panel Discussion

September 21, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

What if we could smell our local rivers long before we could see them? What if our legacy was dead streams, poisonous water and a dying ecosystem? This was the story of our community not very long ago. Meet the River Heroes who said NO to the destruction of our Troubled Waters.Their passion, their activism and their call to save our waterways awoke our communities to the need for river stewardship. Their call still echoes today in the environmental efforts, land conservancies, river keepers, green businesses and engaged communities who are working to be the stewards nature is asking us to be.

Award-winning film director David Weintraub’s new documentary Guardians of Our Troubled Waters, tells the story of our communities and their deep connections to their rivers and streams as a source of spiritual and physical sustenance. With a focus on the French Broad and the Pigeon Rivers, the film presents lessons learned for today’s world.

This film screening is presented by WNC Climate Action Coalition. A panel discussion will follow the film screening featuring:
• David Weintraub, Director of the film
• Eric Romaniszyn, Haywood Waterways Executive Director
• Callie Moore, Western Regional Office Director, Mountain True
• and others to be announced
The panel will discuss rivers and water, but also climate change related to rivers and water.
