Price Lake Paddle in Blowing Rock, NC 7/22/22

Interested in exploring the beautiful scenes of the blue ridge parkway and meeting fellow environmental enthusiasts? Come paddle on Price Lake with the Watauga Riverkeeper and the water team staff. This event will be BYOB (bring your own boat!) but the kayak and canoe rentals are available on-site at Price Lake. This is one of our most pristine Swim Guide sites, with gorgeous mountain views located on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Registration is required for this event.

Waiting List: Craggy National Scenic Area Hike near Barnardsville, NC 7/23/22

Join MountainTrue for a hike in the proposed Craggy Mountain National Scenic Area. The Craggy Mountains are one of the mightiest mountain ranges in eastern North America and are traversed by the Blue Ridge Parkway. The National Forest Lands of the Craggy Mountains have popular support to become a national scenic area designed to permanently protect the scenic and biological values of the area. Join biologist Josh Kelly for a six-mile hike through the spectacular high elevation forests and vistas of the Craggies. Along the way, we will appreciate the flora, fauna, and natural history of the area. Registration for this event is required.

Fontana Lake Paddle in Fontana, NC 7-30-22

Join us as we explore the Hazel Creek arm of Fontana Lake and the former town of Proctor, NC which was evacuated and flooded for the creation of the lake in 1944. The remnants of the town are now part of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park!

Guided River Snorkel near Sugar Grove, NC 7/30/22

Join MountainTrue's High Country water team and take the plunge to explore the unique ecosystems of the Watauga River through a guided snorkel trip. Much like ocean reef snorkeling, river snorkeling allows you an unparalleled viewpoint to explore all the nooks and crannies of your local river. By peeking under the water, you can find yourself swimming alongside darting fish or face-to-face with the tiny insect larvae that feed them. If you're lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of a Hellbender. Registration for this event is required.

Rufus Morgan WaterFall Hike & Wayah Bald Visit near Franklin, NC 9/9/22

Spend the morning in the heart of Nantahala National Forest with MountainTrue western regional director, Callie Moore. We'll start with an easy-to-moderate 1-mile loop hike that includes beautiful Rufus Morgan Falls. Then we'll drive to Wayah Bald, stopping at the historical Wilson Lick Ranger Station. At Wayah Bald, we'll take an easy short hike from the summit parking area and climb an old stone fire tower, built in 1937 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, to witness panoramic views that on clear days extend all the way to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Registration is required for this event.

Waiting List: Lower Green River Inflatable Kayak Trip near Saluda, NC 9/10/22

Want to get outside and on the water this Spring? Then join our Green Riverkeeper for a trip down the Lower Green River! This section is perfect for anyone looking for a casual Class I-II whitewater rapid experience. We'll equip each paddler with safety gear and your own inflatable kayak. The trip covers approximately 5 miles over 4 hours. Registration is required.

Waiting List: Urban E-bike Tour through Downtown Asheville 9/17/22

Join MountainTrue as we team up with Flying Bikes Tours to take out a fleet of electric bikes! We will pass through downtown, where Chris Joyell, Healthy Communities Director, will share his extensive knowledge about Asheville's urban core, including stories of how redlining has shaped our city and what the future could hold for Asheville. With the bikes, we will expand our range, pedaling through the River Arts District and the Southside, experiencing the highlights (and lowlights) of Asheville's bike infrastructure. We will stop frequently to hear from Chris about the history of development in these areas and what the future might look like in these places. Registration is required for this trip.
