Invasive Plant Walk and Talk in Hendersonville, NC 7/13/22
This walk will begin at Patton Park. The slow amble will feature stops along the way to look at a recent live-staking project and part of a streambank restoration in Patton Park. Gale will stop at a non-native invasive plant removal site, to see the progress, and walk the newly reinforced boardwalk into the swamp, a favorite spot for birdwatching. A short distance away, at the red kiosk on the greenway, the group will stop to admire the new native plant garden, established in the memory of Wes Burlingame. Registration is required.

3rd Annual Broad River Fishing Tournament
Go out on your own to your favorite location on the Broad River. You can fish one day or all week long!
This is a for-fun and “bragging rights” only tournament, no cash or material prizes will be given. Recognition as the “Broad’s Best Angler” will be given to the fisher person who has the highest combined total length of their three biggest fish. We will also recognize winners for catching specific species and for the most unusual fish.

This section is perfect for anyone looking for a casual Class I-II whitewater rapid experience. We'll equip each paddler with safety gear and your own inflatable kayak. The trip covers approximately 5 miles over 4 hours. Registration is required.

7th Annual Sarah Sweep on the First Broad River near Lawndale, NC 9/24/22
Double Shoals Mill 199 Old Mill Rd., Shelby, NC, United StatesCome join the 7th Annual Sarah Sweep River cleanup and celebration. All are welcome to join us on this lovely section of river that Sarah Spencer held dear to her heart. While paddling the shallow, shaded, cool waters that flow between rock cliffs and rhododendron, Sarah would always stop to pick up any litter along the way. Sarah, Beejay, Billy, and Davey died tragically in 2016 in a car accident. This event is in remembrance and honor of these friends and their love for our river. We hope you'll honor their memory with us on either the river cleanup or in celebration after the cleanup where we'll have barbecue provided by Doug Fortenberry Catering and live music.
