On Thursday, October 10th, Hendersonville Green Drinks presents Urban & Suburban Black Bears: Study Phase II. Shelby Shiver, a research technician with the Urban/Suburban Bear Project will discuss the current research objectives of the study, including techniques used to live-capture and radio-collar bears in Asheville. In addition to covering the diet and habits of urban bears, Shelby will explain the role of pilot BearWise communities in the study and the impact these could have on human-bear interactions in the future.
Shelby Shiver is a research technician for the Urban/Suburban Bear Project in Asheville, NC. She graduated from the University of Florida in 2017 with a B.Sc. in Biology and a minor in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation. Shelby worked with black bears in Florida, as a research technician for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission before relocating to Asheville. In addition to her work with bears, she has also worked with bobcats, river otters, and fox squirrels.
