MountainTrue University: Dear White People

Webinar--online

This week's MountainTrue University will feature Tanya Marie Cummings, a MountainTrue board member and founder of Pathways to Parks, an organization that works to get more People of Color outside in our national parks and forests. In her talk, Dear White People: To Know Better is to Do Better, Tanya Marie will share stories of how she's experienced racism as a black woman in WNC and in the outdoors. She believes that when white people pull their heads 'out of the sand' and strive to understand the ugly disease of racism, they can become allies to black people to effectuate the 'change' that America so desperately needs during this pivotal time in American history.

Beer Series with the Wedge Brewing

Despite the unusual times we find ourselves in, there is still trash collecting in our river. We hope that as many folks as possible can help us clean up the French Broad, but know that we can't all be on the river together. We are offering a limited capacity in person clean up as well as a virtual clean up with the Wedge on August 1st. There are prizes from ENO for the most interesting finds for both virtual and in-person participants!

Virtual Green Drinks – August

Webinar--online

Virtual Hendersonville Green Drinks welcomes Tony Dunn, a former USFS Fire Behavior Analyst and a Camp Fire survivor. On November 8, 2018, a wildfire swept through the mountain town of Paradise, CA. It was the most destructive fire in California history and caused the permanent dislocation of nearly 50,000 people, most of them elderly and financially disadvantaged. Tony Dunn outlines how climate change contributed to the fire and how climate-driven disasters like the Camp Fire disproportionately impact vulnerable communities and their ability to recover.

Beer Series with Wicked Weed

Join MountainTrue, the French Broad Riverkeeper, Wicked Weed Brewing and 98.1 The River for the another Riverkeeper Beer Series cleanup. This will be a virtual cleanup, so make sure to post your pics with the #wickedweedcleanup for a chance to win some great prizes from ENO! Cleanup the French Broad River, your local creek, roadway, or neighborhood.

5th annual Sarah Sweep on the First Broad River, self-shuttle required

Cooke’s Hometown Market 4601 Polkville Rd, Shelby, NC, United States

All are welcome to join us on this lovely section of river that Sarah Spencer held dear to her heart. While paddling the shallow, shaded, cool waters that flow between rock cliffs and rhododendron, Sarah would always stop to pick up any litter along the way. Sarah, Beejay, Billy, and Davey died tragically in 2016 in a car accident. This event is in remembrance and honor of these friends and their love for our river.
