Live Online Info Session on the Draft Nantahala-Pisgah Forest Plan

On April 7, MountainTrue will host a virtual presentation and discussion during which Josh Kelly, MountainTrue’s public lands biologist will present the organization’s analysis of the draft management plan and the environmental impact statement for the Nantahala-Pisgah National Forests. Public lands field biologist, Josh Kelly will be doing a live reprise of his April 7 webinar of MountainTrue's perspective on the draft Nantahala Pisgah Forest Management Plan for the Public Policy Network's regular May meeting. Also included will be tips and information about how the public can positively influence the final version.  The webinar is free of charge and you do not have to be a member of PPN to register for the webinar.

MountainTrue University: The Importance of NEPA

The National Environmental Policy Act, or NEPA, has received more press this year than ever amid legislative rollbacks at the federal level. Many organizations, MountainTrue included, have urged their members to contact their representatives and encourage them to protect NEPA. But what about this piece of legislation stands out?

In our first installment of MountainTrue University, our Western Regional Director, Callie Moore, will explain what NEPA is and why it's so important to the environmental movement. In her talk, Callie will provide case studies of how NEPA has helped us win environmental victories here in places like Fires Creek and Corridor K. She will also discuss how state environmental policy acts and the Freedom of Information Act support NEPA and our work protecting our local environment.

MountainTrue University: Ancient Forests of the Blue Ridge

Next up from MountainTrue University: Ancient Forests of the Blue Ridge with our Public Lands Biologist, Josh Kelly. In his talk, Josh will focus on our Old-Growth Forests, starting with the basics of what makes a forest "old-growth" to where you can find them in WNC. Then, Josh will discuss the role of old-growth in our forest ecosystems and the prospects for landscape-scale restoration.

MountainTrue University: Top Native Alternatives

For this week's MountainTrue University, we here from Tony Ward our Western Regional Program Coordinator. In his talk "Native Alternative to the Top Ten Least Wanted Plants", Tony will review our top ten least wanted and widespread nonnative invasive plants along with recommendations for native alternatives to replace them. This is a great place to start if you want to learn more about the damage invasive plants can do to our ecosystem and some of the native plants that you can plant instead.
