Broad River Fishing Tournament

We’re excited to announce the first-ever Broad River Fishing Tournament! This is a for-fun and "bragging rights" only tournament. Recognition as the "Broad's Best Angler" will be given to the fisher person who has the highest combined total length of their three biggest fish. We will also recognize winners for catching the biggest bass, biggest catfish, biggest panfish (bream or crappie) and for the most unusual fish. Registration is free and donations support the Broad Riverkeeper program.

2020 Broad River Race Day

Join us for the 2nd annual Broad River Race Day! We welcome folks to race at their own pace, and enjoy these 5 miles on the most beautiful stretch of the Broad River. Remember, the hare may not always out run the tortoise! We will meet at the Lake Houser put in at 1:00 sharp to drop off boats. Due to covid-19, you must have your own shuttle arrangements to get back to the starting line this year. There is a $5 parking fee at Lake Houser and at the Greenway.

Spring Headwaters & Wildflower Hike

Join our MountainTrue Ecologist and Public Lands Director, Bob Gale, and Broad Riverkeeper, David Caldwell, as we explore two trails in the North Pacolet sub-basin, a tributary of the Broad River. David will discuss the value and concerns associated with headwater streams, while Bob informs us all about the flowers, plants, and animals we find there.

Come join MountainTrue's Broad River Keeper David Caldwell as we clean up the Broad River! We will be working on one of our most popular and scenic sections, Lake Houser to Broad River Greenway which is about 5 miles of river. We would love YOUR help! Broad River Fish Tournament Kick Off

MountainTrue, the Broad Riverkeeper, The Broad River Greenway and the NC Wildlife Resources Commission will host an in-person kickoff event at the Broad River Greenway on Saturday, August 28, for the first day of MountainTrue’s second annual Broad River Fishing Tournament. There will be games, fishing lessons and demonstrations, giveaways, and educational activities for all ages! RSVP to let us know you're coming!

Moonlight Float

Do you love to paddle? Then come paddle with us by the light of the moon! We will meet up at Lake Houser at 7 pm to drop off boats so we can run our shuttles and be back to put in at 7:50 sunset. Due to covid-19, you must have your own shuttle arrangements to get back to the put in this year.

Broad River Spring Celebration in Rutherfordton, NC 3/20/22

It's Spring Equinox! Warmth is returning! At the cusp of this seasonal change, we celebrate World Water Day and recognize the Broad River watershed relationships that tie us together! Come learn about our river from the Broad Riverkeeper, enjoy fellowship and outdoor games with Rutherford Outdoor Coalition, and participate in a Dreaming Stone celebration of the sacred gift of water at the Broad River. Registration is required for this event.
