Come plant with us at one of our live staking work days in March! Live staking is the process of planting live cuttings of dormant trees in the riparian buffer zone along the stream bank which helps filter storm water runoff, protect vital aquatic habitat, and prevent soil erosion and sediment pollution.

Concerned about chemical levels in the river? Help Watauga Riverkeeper Volunteers collect water samples at designated sites for chemical analysis at a state-certified lab. This volunteer opportunity is ongoing, please sign up and we will get in contact about details.

Help Watauga Riverkeeper keep tabs on the amount of microplastics in our rivers! Once you sign up to help sample, one of our staff members will email you to set you up with a site that is most convenient for you to collect quarterly.

Join our High Country Water Team in exploring aquatic wildlife in the Watauga River. We will get up close and personal with many native fish species, such as the tangerine darter. Using view buckets, we can see under the water’s surface and observe the life teeming below.
